  What are the different types of coats a Dachshund can have?   Basic Terminology  Smooth, Long hair and Wirehair, all 3 coat types come in 2 sizes, standard and Miniature.  Genetical  Terminology: Dogs will normally carry 2 copies of their own coat being WW, SS or LL. W  - If a Dachshund carries the Wire Coat Gene then it will always be a dominate gene. (If only one dog carries W then it will be a wire, however if it carries one 2 coats then it will produce recessive smooths or longhaired dachshunds.    S - A smooth coat is also a dominate and will dominate longhair. For example if a dog has S and L gene it will pass on its S to the puppies with also having the chance to have recessive longhaired puppies. L - Longhaired coat is a recessive gene from both W and S.   We get asked ALOT how to train your Dachshund to go potty in the correct area, If you own a Dachshund then you know the struggle of how long it takes to get it 100%.  My Personal Experience: When I first got Kingsley I was living in a penthouse with no garden or yard, So I compromised. I purchased some fake grass (Actually a role roll of it - haha) and I also purchased a play pen. We were lucky enough to have a private balcony off the bedroom, So I left the sliding door open slightly barricaded a small area with the play pen and left the fake grass there. It didn't take Kingsley long to understand that is where he must go. I also had some pee pads just near by the door just incase he made any mistakes (which yes, he did). I was very fortunate to have very little accidents on the carpet (PS Soda Water and stand on a Towel will get rid of ANY STAINS), Of course being a new puppy in his first couple of weeks he thought that the bed was a nice place for him too also release hims...

  A Dapple Dachshund is a dog that carries the one Dapple (Merle) gene which is commonly found in Australian Shepherds, Collies, Great Danes, Sheltie and lots of other breeds. Dapple Dachshunds vary from Silver Dapple, Chocolate Dapple and more. Please check out our blog about Dachshund Coats and Colours for more information.
